Race planning calculators

Use a distance-specific calculator when you already know the race you are targeting. These tools calculate the pace required for a finish-time goal, or project a finish time from a known pace. They also provide useful split checkpoints for race planning.

Many of the distance calculators support even pacing, negative-split planning, kilometre or mile split tables, printable results, CSV downloads and shareable race plans.

How to use running calculators responsibly

Running calculators are planning tools, not guarantees. A calculated pace assumes reasonably consistent conditions and does not fully account for elevation, wind, trail difficulty, heat, altitude, congestion, fuelling, recovery or current fatigue.

  • Use recent and representative race results.
  • Adjust pace targets for terrain and weather.
  • Use effort as well as watch pace when conditions change.
  • Treat calculated training ranges as guidance rather than rigid instructions.
  • Build race plans that include fuelling, hydration and expected stopping time where relevant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which running calculator should I use?

Use the Running Pace Calculator for general pace, time and distance calculations. Use a distance-specific calculator for race planning, the Race Time Predictor for equivalent performances and the Training Pace Calculator for workout guidance.

Do the calculators support kilometres and miles?

Yes. The main pace, treadmill, interval and race-planning calculators support metric and imperial pace formats.

Can I print or download the results?

Many distance calculators allow you to print or save the race plan, download split data as CSV and create a shareable result.

What is the difference between a pace calculator and a race predictor?

A pace calculator uses known pace, time or distance values. A race predictor starts with a completed race result and estimates equivalent performances at other distances.

Do these calculators work for trail races?

They can provide a baseline, but trail elevation, technical terrain and aid-station time often make actual pacing less even than a road-based calculation suggests.

Are the running calculators free?

Yes. ToolCetra’s running calculators are available to use online without installation.
